INNOVATION
Specialised lighting:
- Environmental issues are being considered by lighting designers – low energy light bulbs, automatically-timed shut-off functions and dynamos are all being used
- Due to the use of LEDs lights are becoming tactile playthings that kids can interact with
- Colour-changing lights enable children to make personal choices resulting in an increased feeling of ownership
- Rechargeable lights double up as torches that kids can either take to bed with them or use to light their way in the dark (useful for night time trips to the toilet)
- The Tio colour-changing light switch alerts children to the amount of electricity that is being consumed by using a simple traffic light colour-changing visual combined with facial expressions
- Huey the Chameleon lamp uses an optical sensor to detect the colour of the surface it is placed on and then matches it using multicoloured LEDs
- Kaspa is a light made using glow-in-the-dark phosphor. This means that once the light turns off it continues to glow for up to 20 minutes, without consuming any further electricity
