SCOTCH SHRUNK Autumn|Winter 2012

As promised last week, here’s Scotch Shrunk’s Back to School vibe! What I love most is how playful it is for the boys. Love the hidden face masks, old school suspenders, and of course the baseball jacket!

Let’s hope the older brothers get some style inspiration. Just so that men who act like boys, still dress like men ;).

Friday Fun-day

Welcome the weekend with a littleDIY! I love the word doily…always cracks me up. How gorgeous and easy is this doily lamp? Perfect for a weekend activity with the kids - and why not have a go at painting them in different colours too?

Thursday Tidbits

MEANWHILE, IN KIDSWEAR…Mothercare’s strong position in the Middle East maternity market could be threatened as US counterpart, kidswear giant The Children’s Place, prepares to make its debut in the region.

The US retailer, which has over 1,000 stores in its domestic market, has signed a 10-year franchise deal with Apparel Group to open shops across the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman. The first stores in the region will open this quarter in Saudi Arabia, where the franchisee is Fawaz Al Hokair to launch in Saudi Arabia.

The Children’s Place’s expansion will be unwelcome news for Mothercare, whose international business has continued to boom while its UK division has struggled.

Mothercare is eyeing opening 20 to 30 stores a year across the Middle East and Africa, where it already has 290 stores. It forecasts 10% growth in the region each year. More than half of Mothercare’s sales are generated overseas.

Apparel Group chairman Nilesh Ved laid down the gauntlet to Mothercare. He said: “There is a void in the Gulf States for children’s product and we are confident that The Children’s Place is the perfect brand to fill that void.”

Tuesday’s Tricks
The INNOVATION of the week for me is the ChildMinder® Infant-Toddler Elite Pad System.
It’s hard to believe, but the number of articles I’ve read about babies being left inside cars never fails to worry me. Surely being a parent must be hard, and mistakes can happen to anyone at anytime. Even the most caring parent in the world could be fatigued or dazed, and can just happen to one day forget their quiet, sleeping baby in the car!
A company called Baby Alert International has come up with the perfect device for child-car safety.

The ChildMinder® Infant-Toddler Elite Pad System is a passive child safety seat monitoring system comprised of the Elite Pad, system Base Unit and a Key Ring Alarm Unit. This system functions the same as the Smart Clip. It is for premies, but may be used through the toddler years. (An additional Single-Unit Key Ring Alarm Unit for an alternate caregiver may be purchased separately.)
The Elite Pad should be placed between cushions or under the cushion of the child safety seat. Once the child is seated in the safety seat, the Elite Pad System passively monitors your child in his/her safety seat. Installation takes less than three minutes.
The Elite Pad System is activated when a child is seated in the child safety seat. An alarm sounds in six seconds after a parent or caregiver walks more than fifteen (15) feet from a vehicle while the child remains seated in the child safety seat. The Elite Pad System will significantly reduce that one in a hundred thousand chance that your child may be inadvertently left unattended in a motor vehicle while seated in their child safety seat.

SCOTCH R’BELLE Autumn|Winter 2012.

How adorable is little R’belle’s Back to School chic vibe? I know a lot of schools, especially in the UK and the UAE, have uniforms. But for those around the world who don’t - or are looking for after school outfits - I definitely recommend Scotch R’belle for durable, comfortable, and super fashionable kidswear!

Keep an eye out for Scotch Shrunk’s collection next Sunday.

Ecole Maternelle Pajol - Paris

Ecole Maternelle Pajol, a four-classroom kindergarten on Rue Pajol in Paris’s 18th arrondissement, combines so many of the things we love.

Parisian architecture office Palatre & Leclère has restored and reimagined the 1940s building , yet they have left the basic feel of the structure unchanged. We believe in repurposing and saving older buildings, but letting them tell their previous stories, even in their new guises.

In Ecole Maternelle Pajol, Palatre & Leclère used colour boldly both inside and out. They also provided a variety of shapes and forms in the furniture, furnishings and on the walls, in the play areas, rest areas and even in the bathrooms. In addition, they provided a variety of textures from tile and glass to rubber and wood.

The building has kept its 1940s brick-wall feel, yet it radiates exuberance and has an up-to-date energy. Most likely its current users feel it was built just for them.

DOLCE & GABBANA BAMBINO

When Italy and family are central values of Dolce&Gabbana, it is only natural for the designers to launch a childrenswear line. After all, children are the heart of a family. The debut collection of Dolce&Gabbana Bambino, is as luxurious and beautiful as the adult one, while remaining thoroughly appropriate to children.

Why waste a baby cot canopy when it makes for a great little hideout for the kids when they’re older! I used to make a tent like this with my curtains - but this is just amazzzing. Let’s go back 15 years.
